Thunderstorms are expected over the weekend, according to a yellow warning issued yesterday by the Department of Meteorology.
The warning will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. on Saturday until 4:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department forecasts isolated strong thunderstorms to intermittently affect primarily the western and southern parts of the island. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 50 millimetres per hour, with a possibility of hail. During thunderstorms, wind gusts could reach up to 7 Beaufort.

A low-pressure system is expected to affect the region.
Today, the weather will gradually become mostly cloudy, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may occur during thunderstorms. These conditions will initially impact western and northern areas, where they may be intense. Winds will blow southwesterly to northwesterly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and temporarily very strong at 6 Beaufort in windward areas. The sea will be slightly rough to rough. Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland and on the coasts and 8°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms gradually moving eastward. Hail is possible during thunderstorms. Winds will blow primarily southwesterly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally very strong at 6 Beaufort. The sea will be rough. Temperatures will drop to around 8°C inland, 15°C in the west, approximately 12°C on other coasts, and 4°C in the higher mountains, where frost may form in sheltered areas.
On Sunday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy, with isolated showers or thunderstorms expected, but it will soon become mostly clear.
On Monday and Tuesday, the weather will be locally mostly cloudy, with periods of local showers and isolated thunderstorms. In the highest peaks of Troodos, sleet or snow may occur.
Temperatures will remain steady on Sunday, drop slightly on Monday, and then rise slightly on Tuesday to approach the seasonal average.
