A yellow warning for heat will come into force on Friday afternoon, with temperatures in inland Cyprus expected to reach 40°C during the hottest part of the day.
The Department of Meteorology has issued the warning, which will be in effect from 2pm until 4.30pm.
The department said temperatures inland are expected to peak at around 40°C.
Mainly fine with isolated showers inland
Seasonal low pressure continues to affect the region.
Friday will be mainly fine, although increasing cloud is expected to develop gradually. Isolated showers are possible over mountainous areas during the afternoon.
Winds will initially be light and variable or onshore at around Force 3, before becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at Force 3 to 4. Along the coast, winds will strengthen to Force 4 to 5 during the afternoon.
The sea will be calm to slight, becoming temporarily slight in windward coastal areas later in the day.
Maximum temperatures will reach around 40°C inland, 32°C along the west and southwest coasts, 34°C in other coastal areas and 29°C in the higher mountains.
Warm night ahead
Tonight will remain mostly clear, although increased low cloud is expected to develop later, particularly along coastal areas.
During the early morning hours, patchy mist or fog may form in places, mainly in southern and eastern parts of the island.
Winds will gradually become light downslope winds at Force 3, while the sea will remain calm to slight.
Overnight temperatures will fall to around 24°C inland and along the coast, and around 20°C in the higher mountains.
Weekend outlook
Saturday, Sunday and Monday are expected to be mostly fine across most of the island, with periods of increased cloud.
Cloud developing over the mountains during the afternoon may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Monday and will remain above the seasonal average.
