The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture announces “With What Remains”, an art exhibition at the Cyprus Museum, featuring works by Andreas Mallouris and Leontios Toumpouris, curated by Cristina Anglada. The exhibition, which will run from 6 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, reflects on fragments, reconstruction, memory and care.
“With What Remains” approaches the museum as a space in which histories can be reconsidered, relationships reconfigured and new forms of knowledge activated. The exhibition asks not only “What survives?” but also “What becomes possible when we choose to work with what remains?”
The exhibition takes place at a moment of transition for the Cyprus Museum, as it prepares its main collection for the new Cyprus Archaeological museum, a new location and a new architectural and museological framework. Against this backdrop, the artists respond to the Museum’s archaeological exhibits and spaces with site-specific interventions. The exhibition asks what it means to work with what remains: archaeological fragments, damaged objects, bodies, scars, memories, landscapes, stories and forms of knowledge.
Toumpouris’s work engages with archaeology, landscape and the museum through sculpture, fiction and collective processes. He responds to the condition of transition and in-betweenness, treating non-resolution not as a failure to arrive at an endpoint, but as a space for development, and speculation.
Mallouris brings together his artistic practice and experience as a reconstructive surgeon, exploring vulnerability, healing, and the body through gestures of care, the functional hand, tools, flowers, scars. Considering the wound simultaneously as a site of vulnerability, knowledge, identification and care, his work draws on the statement that “outside of the womb, all wounds leave scars”.
The exhibition is supported by Pylon Art & Culture and BA in Fine Art, Department of Design & Multimedia, University of Nicosia.
