Wildfire near Xyliatos dam forest brought under control

A wildfire in Adelfoi forest near Xyliatos Dam broke out at 3am on Wednesday in the area of “Ano Stavri”, within the state forest known as “Adelfoi”, in Nicosia district.

According to the Forestry Department, firefighting teams responded immediately, bringing the wildfire under full control by 5am. The blaze had burned approximately three decares of land covered with pine trees and low wild vegetation.

A total of 39 personnel from the Forestry Department participated in the firefighting effort, using 10 fire engines, a bulldozer, and a water tanker. They were supported by the Fire Service, which contributed an additional fire truck and three staff members.

The wildfire is currently under investigation. Authorities have noted that it appears to have started close to a site housing an electricity generator and a mobile phone antenna.
