WFTGA Board in Cyprus, meets with Tourism Deputy Minister

Tourist guides perform an important role in every destination, Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis said, during a meeting in Nicosia with the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA).

Αccording to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Koumis on Monday had a meeting with the President of the WFTGA, Sebastian Frankenberger, and with the Members of the Board of the Federation, in the presence of a delegation from the Cyprus Tourist Guide Association.

According to the Deputy Ministry, the WFTGA Board was in Cyprus as part of the activation of its International Training Centre in Nicosia, for the training programmes “Train the Trainer” and “International Train the Trainer”, which will take place between November 17 and December 1, 2024.

It notes that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is the main sponsor of the training centre.

Koumis, welcoming the President and members of the Board of WFTGA to Cyprus and thanking them for their long-standing cooperation, said that his Deputy Ministry recognises the importance of training tourist guides, who, he said, perform an important role in every destination.

Frankenberger referred to the modern challenges facing the tourist guide profession, noting that the goal of the WFTGA, is for the sector to be able to respond to the challenges and adapt to modern, demanding conditions.

In this context, he welcomed the operation of the training centre in Cyprus, adding that it was a “model centre” that provides high-quality training to tourist guides.
