Water supply reduction in Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta

Date:

Maintenance at desalination unit

The Department of Water Development announced that a water supply reduction will affect the districts of Larnaca, Nicosia and Famagusta from Tuesday 17 February until Thursday 19 February.

The reduced supply is due to scheduled maintenance works at the Dhekelia Desalination Plant, carried out as part of routine servicing of the facility.

Efforts to manage available water

The Department stated that, in cooperation with all relevant authorities, every possible effort will be made to ensure optimal management of available water quantities and maximum coverage of supply needs across the three districts.

Call for limited consumption

Authorities urged the public to restrict water use to essential needs during this period until the desalination unit resumes operation. Effective and responsible use of water, the announcement noted, will significantly support efforts to address ongoing water scarcity affecting Cyprus.

Consumers are asked to avoid unnecessary consumption and adopt prudent water-saving practices, which contribute to safeguarding adequate water resources for all.

The Department thanked the public for its understanding and cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
