Water supply cuts affect three districts

Date:

Residents of Larnaca, Nicosia and Ammochostos will experience water supply cuts in Cyprus from Tuesday 24 June through Friday 27 June, due to scheduled works at the Larnaca Desalination Unit.

According to an announcement from the Water Development Department (WDD), the reduced water supply is the result of a temporary interruption of operations at the desalination plant, which is undergoing maintenance.

The WDD stated that, in collaboration with district authorities and the operators of other desalination facilities, it is making every possible effort to ensure sufficient water coverage for the affected districts. However, the department has urged the public to limit water usage as much as possible during this period.

“The public is asked to reduce water use to an absolute minimum until the Larnaca Desalination Unit resumes normal operation,” the statement said.

Authorities also emphasised that responsible water consumption will play a critical role in addressing Cyprus’s ongoing drought conditions.

“Efficient use of water is essential in tackling the drought that continues to affect our country,” the department noted.

The water supply cuts in Cyprus are a reminder of the island’s continued vulnerability to water scarcity, especially during the hot summer months. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary consumption and to report any visible leaks or wastage to their local councils.
