Vehicle licence renewal deadline set for 31 March

Final reminder for citizens

The Department of Road Transport has reminded vehicle owners that the deadline for renewing their 2026 vehicle licences is 31 March 2026. Citizens are encouraged to complete the renewal process early to avoid long queues and last-minute complications.

Late renewal penalties

Renewals submitted after 31 March will incur an additional fee of €10, plus an extra charge equal to 10% of the vehicle licence value. Vehicle owners are advised to take action promptly to prevent unnecessary costs.

Refunds for early March renewals

The Department also confirmed that the process to refund the extra charge applied to those who renewed their vehicle licences on 12 and 13 March 2026 is ongoing. Refunds will be completed in accordance with procedures of the General Accounting Office of the Republic.
