The search by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) is underway to locate the 30-year-old man who shot and killed 43-year-old Dora at close range in Agrinio on Monday afternoon.
So far, only the suspect’s car has been found in the Myrtia area, but not the weapon – a handgun – used in the murder.
According to reports, the last person to see the 30-year-old was a local resident, who spotted him just after 8 p.m. near a lake in the area. The witness reported that the suspect was carrying a backpack and holding a gun.
In an interview with journalists, the suspect’s sister said, “He had been with the girl for about four years. We are deeply sorry. My brother wasn’t like this. We want him to be arrested and held accountable for what he did, but we don’t want him to be killed or to take his own life. He threatened he would commit suicide. He called me in the afternoon and said, ‘Vaso, I did it; I’ve hurt Dora.’ I told him she wasn’t his property and to leave her alone. He did it. I still can’t believe it. He wasn’t like this. He told me he was leaving and asked me to take care of our mother and my child. His phone is switched off. She had taken out a restraining order against him.”
The 30-year-old’s mother added, “He wasn’t upset. He left, saying he’d go for a walk and be back. When I got home, I saw his car, but he wasn’t here. If I saw him now, I would tell him to turn himself in.”
According to known details, the 30-year-old had previously been reported for domestic violence by the victim. His hunting weapons had been confiscated by the Thermo Police Station, and he was due to appear in court on 15 November following a complaint by the 43-year-old. Restraining orders were in place, prohibiting him from approaching Dora. Reports suggest she chose not to request a panic button.
Other sources indicate that the 30-year-old’s name does not appear in the Anti-Extortion Unit’s records for any involvement with the Greek mafia.
Recent posts by the suspect on Facebook were telling, referencing separation and death.
The police were alerted shortly after 7:30 p.m. that a woman had been shot on Papagianni Street in central Agrinio. She was found next to her car and, before the ambulance (EKAV) arrived, she managed to identify her attacker, stating that it was her former partner.
