Greek ambassador visits hospital
Doctors at Timisoara Hospital report PAOK crash victims are in stable condition following the deadly E-70 motorway accident on Tuesday, January 27, near the city of Lugoj. Greek Ambassador to Romania Lili Grammatikis visited the hospital Tuesday evening and received updates on the health of the three injured.
Positive prognosis for all injured
The ambassador told AFP that all three patients have a positive prognosis. “One patient is in fairly good condition, and one is in intensive care under medical sedation but not intubated. None require blood transfusions. Considering the tragedy, this is somewhat encouraging,” she said. Doctors will review test results on Wednesday to determine whether surgery is necessary.
Embassy coordinates repatriation of the deceased
Grammatikis added that the Greek embassy is working with Romanian authorities to repatriate the deceased, whose bodies are held at Lugoj morgue. Identification is ongoing, and the names will not be released publicly until the process is complete. Once confirmed, the embassy will initiate procedures to transfer the bodies to Greece.
Support from PAOK fans
On Tuesday evening, hundreds of PAOK supporters arrived in Timisoara on five buses and gathered silently outside the hospital to show support for the injured. Hospital officials met with representatives of the fans, who, after receiving updates on the victims’ conditions, returned to Greece shortly after midnight. The supporters had been travelling by road to France but paused their journey in Hungary upon learning of the tragic accident.
