Russian customs authorities have discovered undeclared women’s clothing and perfumes worth 925,000 roubles in the luggage of a 60-year-old man at the Russia-Estonia border.
According to Russian reports, the man was travelling from Cyprus to Russia through the Shumilkino border crossing, with St Petersburg as his final destination.
During an inspection of his luggage, customs officers found expensive perfumes, women’s underwear, scarves, shoes, swimsuits, dresses and pyjamas, along with other clothing items.
Man claimed items were used
The 60-year-old told authorities that he was carrying a parcel for a female friend in St Petersburg and claimed that all the clothing was second-hand.
However, an expert examination found no signs of use on the products. Their total value was estimated at 925,000 roubles.
Under current legislation, goods worth more than €500 imported into the Eurasian Economic Union must be declared and the relevant customs duties paid.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the man over the alleged customs violation.
