UK Parliament: MPs danced cha-cha while Bases attacked

Date:

Images of MPs dancing in the UK Parliament have sparked strong reactions on social media, as critics called the timing inappropriate amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Several MPs, including the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, took part in an event at Portcullis House on Wednesday morning, where stars from Strictly Come Dancing, including Angela Rippon and Alex Kingston, taught basic dance steps.

Event aimed at wellbeing

The event was intended to highlight the health and wellbeing benefits of dance. However, many social media users criticised the timing, noting the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and recent drone strikes on the British Bases in Cyprus.

Criticism amid regional tension

Criticism intensified as the region faces unrest following US-Israeli strikes in Iran that began on Saturday. These actions have prompted Iranian retaliatory measures and increased the risk of a wider regional conflict.
