Two more bodies have been recovered from the Kyrenia shipwreck, bringing the confirmed death toll to 17, according to Turkish Cypriot “Prime Minister” Ünal Üstel.
The bodies were found around 1,000 metres from the wreck at a depth of 570 metres, Üstel said.
DNA tests have begun to determine the identities of the victims, with their families expected to be informed once the results are available.
The latest recovery brings the number of confirmed deaths to 17, while 11 people remain missing following the shipwreck off Kyrenia on 30 August.
The search and recovery operation is continuing as authorities work to establish the identities of those recovered and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
