The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a water-saving campaign highlighting the urgent need to conserve water in Cyprus, calling on the public to reduce water consumption and help tackle Cyprus’ growing water crisis
Under the slogan “Turn off the tap- Be part of the solution”, the campaign encourages simple daily actions, such as reducing shower time by just one minute. According to the Government Press Office (GPO), this small change- saving approximately 10 litres of water- could provide enough for 70,000 people daily, in a country of just one million.
With Cyprus facing intensifying water scarcity due to drought and climate pressure, the water-saving campaign emphasises both individual and collective responsibility. It is especially relevant during the summer months, when household and tourism-related consumption tends to peak.
The initiative also aims to increase awareness about water management and encourage more sustainable habits in homes, hotels, and businesses.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to address water scarcity and promote sustainable consumption, especially during peak summer demand.
