A Turkish transport minister fined after speeding video post has sparked criticism and some amusement after he effectively reported himself. On Sunday night, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared a video on social media platform X, in which he is seen driving on a motorway near Ankara.

The video, set to traditional Turkish music and excerpts from speeches by President Tayyip Erdoğan, inadvertently revealed the car’s speedometer—showing speeds between 190 and 225 km/h, well above the 140 km/h national motorway limit.
Shortly after the video circulated, Uraloğlu reposted it, acknowledging the violation. “I took the wheel to inspect the Ankara–Niğde motorway and unintentionally exceeded the speed limit for a short period,” he wrote. “With the video, I essentially reported myself.”
A police notice he shared confirmed a fine of 9,267 Turkish lira (approximately £165) for driving at 225 km/h.
Uraloğlu added: “From now on, I will be much more careful. Obeying speed limits is mandatory for everyone.”
The original video was posted with the hashtag #TurkeyAccelerates, which ironically became a focal point of criticism across Turkish social media, with users pointing out the contradiction between public safety messages and the minister’s actions.
