Scattered rain to affect celebrations
Tsiknopempti weather conditions are expected to bring rain and possible isolated storms tomorrow, according to the latest forecast.
Speaking to SigmaLive, Meteorological Department Officer Iasonas Christodoulou said the traditional lighting of the foukou may prove slightly more demanding due to the showers.
Morning showers in western areas
Initially on Tsiknopempti, isolated showers are expected in the morning, mainly affecting the western half of the island, including western Limassol and Paphos district.
From midday onwards, local showers and possible isolated thunderstorms are forecast to develop in other areas as well.
However, the phenomena are not expected to be continuous. Christodoulou noted that grilling and observing the custom will become easier after 7pm, as weather conditions are expected to improve.
Temperatures to remain steady
Temperatures are forecast to remain at similar levels to today.
Weak low pressure is affecting the region, while dust is expected to be observed in the atmosphere on Thursday and Friday.
Detailed forecast
Today, the weather will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times, with isolated showers and a possible isolated thunderstorm. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will blow southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough and locally rough. Temperatures will rise to around 19C inland and along the coasts, and 7C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, the weather will remain partly cloudy, with isolated showers and a possible isolated thunderstorm, mainly in the western half of the island. Winds will be mainly southwesterly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort and temporarily moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to 9C inland, 15C on the western coast, around 12C on the remaining coasts and 3C in the higher mountains, where local frost may form.
On Thursday, isolated showers are expected initially, mainly in the western half of the island. Gradually, local showers and possible isolated thunderstorms will develop elsewhere. On Friday, the weather will be cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. On Saturday, the weather will be mainly cloudy at first with a chance of isolated showers, before improving later.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain above average for the season.
