Trump: US military to remain near Tehran

President warns of renewed strikes if Iran breaches agreement

US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning on Wednesday, declaring that American naval and air forces will remain in and around Iran and threatening that the US will “start shooting” again if Tehran does not fully comply with the agreement reached with Washington.

“All US ships, aircraft and personnel, with additional munitions and armament… will remain in place, in and around Iran, until the REAL AGREEMENT that was reached is fully honoured,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform.

He added: “If for any reason this does not happen, which is highly unlikely, then the ‘shooting will start’ again – bigger, better, and stronger than anything anyone has ever seen.”

Iran-US tensions over nuclear program

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran described any talks on a permanent peace deal with the United States as “unreasonable,” following Israel’s heaviest airstrikes in Lebanon to date, which caused hundreds of deaths.

The two sides remain at odds over Iran’s nuclear programme. Trump claimed Iran agreed to halt uranium enrichment, while Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said enrichment could continue under the terms of the ceasefire.

Trump stressed that “this had been agreed long ago, and despite all the false rhetoric to the contrary – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS and the Strait of Hormuz WILL REMAIN OPEN and SAFE,” in a late Truth Social post on Wednesday night.

High tensions in the region

The US-Iran standoff highlights ongoing regional volatility, with military deployments and diplomatic disagreements signalling a fragile security situation in the Middle East.
