US President Donald Trump has indicated that the ongoing conflict with Iran may last “four weeks or less,” as US and Israeli forces continue airstrikes targeting Iranian leadership and strategic sites. The announcement comes amid widespread retaliatory attacks from Tehran on Gulf nations, Israel, and US positions.
Major strikes on Iran and rising casualties
Since Saturday, US and Israeli operations have targeted Iran, resulting in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and 48 senior regime officials. The conflict entered its third day on Monday, with both nations continuing coordinated air operations.
Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes across the Gulf, hitting countries that host US military bases, including the UAE, Kuwait, and Israel. Reports indicate more than 200 Iranians, nine Israelis, and three UAE residents have been killed, with dozens more injured in missile and drone attacks.
US casualties and military warnings
The US has suffered its first casualties in the offensive, with four service members killed and five others seriously wounded. President Trump warned that further US casualties are likely as military operations continue. “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends… Combat operations continue at this time in full-force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved,” he stated.
Trump emphasised that the intervention aims to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons or missile systems capable of reaching the United States, describing the strikes as essential for national and regional security.
Regional tensions escalate
Gulf Arab states have warned of potential retaliation against Iran as the conflict escalates, with fighting intensifying in Israel, Lebanon, and the broader Middle East. Emergency services report mounting casualties on all sides, highlighting the volatility and risks of further escalation in the region.
