Trump calls for rapid approval
US President Donald Trump said he wants Ukraine to approve his proposal to resolve the conflict with Russia within a week, if possible. Speaking at the Oval Office, he noted that the plan “should” suit Kyiv and that Ukraine should accept it. The keyphrase Trump pressures Ukraine appeared again as he insisted on a swift decision.
Reaction to Zelenskyy’s rejection
When asked about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejecting the proposal, Trump said Ukraine “should like it,” and if not, then “they will have to continue fighting.” Trump pressures Ukraine by suggesting Kyiv must choose between accepting the plan or remaining at war.
Oval Office comments
Trump recalled telling Zelenskyy during their February meeting that he “did not hold the cards” in the conflict. The 79-year-old Republican said he expected to resolve the issue far sooner than he has managed so far. He added, “It takes two to tango.”
Frustration over lack of progress
The US president wants to accelerate the process, frustrated that he has not yet been able to end the war, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. In his view, the situation requires urgency, and Trump pressures Ukraine to accept his proposed roadmap.
