A fatal traffic accident claimed the life of 57-year-old Petros Christodoulou last night in Oroklini.
According to a statement from the Larnaca Traffic Division, the incident occurred at 22:20, when a 46-year-old visitor from the United Kingdom was driving his car along Christou Auxentiou Avenue towards Dhekelia. At some point, under circumstances still being investigated, he veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a high-powered motorcycle driven by Christodoulou, a former resident of Larnaca.
The motorcyclist, who preliminary investigations suggest may not have been wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries.
He was transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The driver of the vehicle tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and he is now in police custody.
The Larnaca Traffic Division continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
