The internal investigation into the TNT disappearance from a National Guard firing range is expected to be completed and submitted to the Minister of Defence within one to two days, officials said.
Investigation details
According to Vasilis Palmas, the findings will allow authorities to comment on the internal probe conducted by the National Guard General Staff. The inquiry, led by Brigadier Alkis Alkiviadis, focuses on possible omissions, adherence to safety protocols, and potential responsibilities of personnel involved in the exercise.
Disciplinary action anticipated
Palmas confirmed that disciplinary accountability is certain, noting that the exercise area at the firing range was found to be inadequately secured.
Criminal investigation underway
In parallel, the police continue a criminal investigation into the disappearance. The Minister of Defence emphasised that matters relating to the criminal aspects fall under police jurisdiction, with no new updates currently available.
Safety considerations
Authorities highlighted that a positive factor remains: the missing explosives require a detonator to be activated, reducing immediate risk to the public.
