Thunderstorms and hail expected: See affected areas

Cyprus weather will remain unsettled today, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected mainly in the mountains and inland areas, as well as parts of the southeast.

Hail is possible during thunderstorms, while temperatures will reach 34°C inland.

A similar pattern is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday before conditions improve on Thursday.

Detailed forecast

Seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass are affecting the island.

Today, locally increased cloud will develop at intervals. From midday onwards, developing clouds are expected to bring local rain and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and inland areas, as well as parts of the southeast. Hail is possible during thunderstorms.

Winds will initially be mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. They will gradually strengthen to moderate at 4 Beaufort by the afternoon, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort along the coast.

The sea will initially be slightly rough in the west and north and calm to slightly rough in the south and east. By the afternoon, it will become generally slightly rough.

Temperatures will reach around 34°C inland, around 30°C on the western and south-western coasts, around 32°C on the remaining coasts, and around 26°C in the highest mountains.

Tonight’s weather

Tonight, skies will be mainly clear across most areas, although locally increased low cloud will develop, particularly along the coast.

Later and during the early morning hours, isolated patches of thin fog may form.

Winds will weaken and gradually become downslope, light at 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain slightly rough in the west and north, while it will become calm to slightly rough in the south and east.

Temperatures will fall to around 22°C inland, around 24°C on the coasts, and around 18°C in the highest mountains.

Unsettled weather until Wednesday

On Tuesday and Wednesday, locally increased cloud will occur at intervals. After midday, developing clouds are expected to bring local rain and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and inland areas. Hail is expected during thunderstorms.

On Thursday, the weather will be generally mainly clear, with occasional locally increased cloud.

Temperatures will gradually rise through Thursday, reaching levels close to the seasonal average.
