Three-month-old remains in ICU

Authorities report that a three-month-old infant remains in critical condition, intubated at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of Makarios Hospital in Nicosia. The case is being investigated as a possible instance of infant abuse.

Spokesperson for OKYpY, Pampos Charilaou, confirmed to CNA that the infant’s condition remains critical.

Surgery after brain hematoma detected

Radiological examinations revealed the baby suffered a brain hematoma. Doctors performed surgery in response to the severe injury.

Arrest linked to investigation

On Tuesday, members of the Nicosia CID arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with suspected child abuse and causing serious bodily harm.

Authorities are investigating the suspect for multiple offences, including causing grievous bodily harm, exposing a child to danger, mistreatment of a child under 16, and other negligent acts intended to cause physical injury.
