Five suspects face direct trial

The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court will hear the case against five suspects involved in a Saturday, January 17 incidents in central Larnaca. The trial will begin on March 16 at 8:45 a.m.

Court appearance under tight security

The five defendants appeared today at the Larnaca District Court under strict security measures. They include a 20-year-old, two 26-year-olds, a 32-year-old, and a 48-year-old.

Authorities are still seeking three additional suspects, aged 26, 27, and 35, in connection with the case.

Legal proceedings and detention request

Defense lawyers objected to the police request to keep their clients in custody until the start of the trial. The court is expected to rule tomorrow on whether the five will remain detained until March 16.

Charges against the suspects

The suspects face multiple charges, including:

  • Conspiracy to commit a felony
  • Illegal possession and transport of a firearm
  • Illegal possession of explosives
  • Extortion and property demands with threats
  • Participation in a criminal organization
  • Assault causing actual bodily harm

Additionally, the 48-year-old and one 26-year-old face charges for beating a 39-year-old in Pyla at 4 a.m. on January 17. Investigators are still searching for a 27-year-old connected to this incident.

Other charges against the group include causing grievous bodily harm, causing actual bodily harm, threats, and carrying knives.
