Police investigate a murder attempt on a 40-year-old man in Larnaca’s Tersefanou village. A 33-year-old suspect entered the victim’s apartment through an unlocked balcony door around 7am Sunday.
Larnaca CID arrested him on a court warrant to aid inquiries.
Police spokesman Vyron Vyronos stated the attacker first struck the 40-year-old with a knife. The suspect then grabbed a machete from the kitchen and inflicted multiple wounds.
The victim suffered amputation of his left thumb, partial amputation of right thumb and index finger, lacerations on hands and back, and head wounds.
Victim fights for life
A 46-year-old female resident reported the attack at 7:15am. The suspect threatened her life during the assault. She escaped his pursuit and reached the apartment building’s parking area, where police found her.
Medics rushed the 40-year-old first to Larnaca General Hospital, then to Nicosia General due to his critical condition. The 33-year-old remains in custody awaiting Monday’s Larnaca District Court appearance.
Court orders eight-day remand
The court granted eight days’ detention for the suspect on ten charges. These include attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, wounding, machete possession, burglary, common assault, threats, harassment, and psychological harm.
Larnaca CID and Kiti Police Station continue the probe.
