Temperature to reach 38°C as heatwave builds

Date:

The temperature is expected to reach 38°C today in Cyprus, particularly in inland areas, according to the Department of Meteorology. Southern, eastern, and northern coastal regions will see highs of around 34°C, while temperatures in the western coast and mountainous areas will be slightly cooler, at around 30°C.

A seasonal low-pressure system is currently affecting the region, bringing mostly clear skies throughout the day. Winds will initially blow mainly from the south to southwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, later shifting to southwesterly to northwesterly at moderate to strong levels, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to moderate in most areas.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear, although some areas may see temporary patches of low cloud. Winds will be light to locally moderate, from the southwest to northwest, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slight in the east, slightly rough in the south, and slight to moderate elsewhere. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 23°C inland and along the coast, and 19°C in higher mountain areas.

The weather is expected to remain mostly clear on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The temperature will gradually rise over the coming days, remaining above the seasonal average.
