Syria: Unexploded missile goes viral as local attraction

Date:

An unexploded Iranian missile landed in an open field near Qamishli International Airport in eastern Syria, drawing the attention of local residents, including children. The missile fell during the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran, which has spread across the Middle East and affected multiple countries.

Locals inspect missile

Images released by The Associated Press show villagers, including a Syrian boy, inspecting the black missile with burnt orange markings. The projectile did not explode upon impact, leaving it lodged in the ground. Local reports confirmed no casualties or injuries.

The village of Dimhiyye al-Kabira in Hasakah province, near the Turkish border, became a temporary site of curiosity as men and children approached the missile to examine it.

Regional escalation

The Iran war has extended beyond its borders, impacting more than a dozen countries. Turkey recently intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile near Incirlik Air Base, where US forces are stationed. NATO condemned the attack, with spokesperson Allison Hart stating the alliance “stands firmly with all Allies, including Turkey.”

The conflict has also reached international waters, with the US sinking an Iranian navy vessel near Sri Lanka, highlighting the expanding scale of the crisis.

Global attention

Images of the unexploded missile have circulated widely on social media, showing local residents observing the projectile from a safe distance. These visuals underline the human dimension of the conflict and the far-reaching consequences of the ongoing war.
