Supermarket inspections step up ahead of Christmas

Date:

Supermarket inspections Cyprus-wide are being intensified at all stages of the agri-food chain, both in retail and wholesale markets, ahead of the Christmas holidays.

The competent authorities are increasing oversight with the aim of ensuring food quality and safety, as well as protecting consumers during the festive period.

As part of monitoring the inspections currently under way, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, carried out her scheduled visits to supermarkets on Monday, 23 December.

This year, the minister’s tour is focused on supermarkets in Famagusta district, where she is being briefed on-site about the implementation of inspections and compliance with existing legislation.

The visits form part of broader efforts to ensure that food products placed on the market during the holiday season meet required standards and that consumer rights are safeguarded during a period of increased demand.
