The foot-and-mouth disease continues in Cyprus, with the Ministry of Agriculture reporting seven new positive units in infected areas. Laboratory results from all other districts remain negative.
The newly confirmed cases involve goats and sheep, bringing the total number of infected units to 66 – 57 in Larnaca and nine in Nicosia. Specifically, two positive units were recorded in Dromolaxia-Meneou, one in Kiti, one in Athienou, and three in Geri, covering approximately 2,610 animals in total.
Vaccination progress
The second phase of vaccination has reached 65.35% of cattle and 38.75% of sheep and goats. For pigs, 73% of units within infected areas have been vaccinated so far.
Compensation payments underway
The Ministry of Agriculture also confirmed that compensation payments continue for milk destroyed from infected units. Additionally, payments have begun for animal feed lost due to infection, supporting farmers affected by the outbreak.
