Police from British Bases staged a dramatic arrest of two wanted Lebanese brothers linked to a December 20, 2025, Limassol murder attempt on a Syrian victim. The siblings tried fleeing Cyprus by speedboat but faced a high-seas pursuit off Ormidia, aided by Republic’s Port and Maritime Police.
Around 09:15 Monday, Port and Maritime Police received British Bases alert on a suspect speedboat refusing checks, carrying two men. A Republic vessel rushed to assist as Bases boat rammed the fugitive craft. The helm tried stabbing a Bases crew member with a knife, while the second assaulted the same officer with wood.
Warning shots force surrender
Limassol Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou detailed warning shots from the Republic vessel, halting the boat. A second Republic craft arrived for support; Bases personnel boarded, detaining both suspects.
Identity checks confirmed the Lebanese duo sought for conspiracy to murder, wounding, illegal weapons possession, and related charges from the Limassol incident.
Extradition request looms
Suspects and boat transferred to Dhekelia Bases police station. Kyriakou noted arrests for Bases offenses; Republic will seek handover to execute pending warrants.
