Sandy, the woman at the centre of allegations made by investigative journalist and Volt candidate Makarios Drousiotis, attended a previously undisclosed meeting with police last week and told investigators the SMS messages central to the case are not real, according to police sources.
Investigators treat account with caution
Police are approaching Sandy’s claims with scepticism, concerned that the widespread media attention may have influenced her account. They plan to call her again to clarify her statements and address further questions arising from her testimony.
Sandy’s lawyer, Nikos Clerides, is preparing a USB drive containing approximately 1,000 messages, which will be handed over to the police after being filtered for relevance to the case. Investigators could otherwise obtain the messages through a court order.
Background of allegations
The allegations involve claims of sexual abuse and corruption linked to former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou, who has publicly denied wrongdoing. Sandy has acknowledged knowing the former judge but reportedly stated that the messages were prepared and are not genuine. She has not given an official statement.
Former Bar Association president Christos Clerides confirmed receiving material related to the case in 2018 and encouraged a police complaint that was never filed. Police have described the case as serious and complex.
Next steps for police
Authorities are awaiting delivery of the filtered messages before determining the next investigative steps. Further statements are expected from other individuals believed to hold relevant messages. Police emphasise that Sandy’s account has not been independently verified and that investigations remain ongoing.
