Russian air defence units destroyed 59 Ukrainian drones overnight, including two headed towards Moscow, according to a statement by Russia’s Ministry of Defence.
Forty-five of the drones were downed over the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine, the ministry reported via Telegram.
Another two were shot down over the Moscow region, while additional UAVs were intercepted in the Kursk, Belgorod, and Tula regions, the statement added.
“According to preliminary information, there are no damages or casualties at the sites where debris fell,” Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin assured earlier via Telegram.
Alexander Bogomaz also reported via the same platform that “all” drones launched by Ukrainian forces targeting Bryansk were intercepted.
The Reuters news agency noted it could not independently verify the numbers or the claims made by Russian authorities.
These announcements come a day after a “massive” Russian missile and drone assault targeted Ukraine’s power generation and distribution network, resulting in over ten civilian casualties.
