The series is inspired by the largest heist ever committed in Greece, which remains unsolved to this day. It is set to premiere next TV season on COSMOTE TV. “Get ready for the heist of the century,” says Cosmote TV.
The six-episode series, inspired by true events, takes place in the 1990s and narrates the story of Greece’s largest-ever heist, which remains unsolved to this day.
Filming for the new drama series “Rififi” has begun in Attica under the direction of Sotiris Tsafoulias, with a screenplay by Vassilis Risvas and Dimitra Sakali.
Alongside Panos Vlahos, the cast includes Evangelia Moumouri, Christos Chatzipanagiotis, Vasilis Charalampopoulos, Prometheus Aleiferopoulos, Vladimiros Kyriakidis, Dimos Gigantakis, Achilles Zervas, Aris Lempesopoulos, Kostas Filippoglou, Dimitris Gerodimos, Anna Menenakou, Elie Driva, and many more actors.
The Plot
The story follows the events surrounding the infamous heist—specifically the rififi robbery that took place on 19th December 1992, at a branch of the then Labour Bank on Kallirois Street 19. The series reimagines the case based on reports and news coverage of the time, while delving into the two major questions that remain unanswered: Who did it, and why?
Authorities pointed to organised crime, terrorist organisations, and highly educated but ruthless perpetrators. But was this truly the case?
“Rififi” combines the heist with a real story of human tragedy, delivering “a character-driven series filled with emotion and sharp humour.”
