Gunfire was heard in the southern suburbs of Beirut as a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight local time, according to journalists from Agence France-Presse.
Local Lebanese media also reported shooting at the start of the 10-day truce, which was announced by US President Donald Trump.
Tense start to temporary truce
The southern district of Beirut, considered a stronghold of Hezbollah, has been heavily targeted in Israeli airstrikes since the conflict escalated.
Despite the ceasefire announcement, the reported gunfire highlights continued instability on the ground as hostilities transition into a fragile pause.
Trump said he hopes Hezbollah will “behave well” during the ceasefire period, urging an end to violence and expressing optimism for a calmer phase.
He added that compliance with the truce would mark a positive moment for the group and the wider region.
Regional tensions remain high
The situation comes amid ongoing conflict involving Hezbollah and Israel, with the southern Beirut area remaining one of the most volatile zones in recent months.
The ceasefire is expected to last 10 days, though early reports of gunfire raise questions over its durability and enforcement.
