Red alert level issued for forest fire risk

Date:

The Department of Forests has upgraded the wildfire danger level for Tuesday from “Extremely High” to “Red Alert”, warning the public of an increased risk of forest fires starting and spreading.

The announcement urges citizens to remain extremely cautious, particularly during outdoor activities, as weather conditions continue to create dangerous conditions for the outbreak of fires.

Strict penalties for causing fires

The Department of Forests stressed that causing a fire is a criminal offence under the Forests Law and the Law on the Prevention and Suppression of Fires in Rural Areas.

Those responsible may face severe penalties under the relevant legislation.

Public urged to remain vigilant

Authorities called on the public to avoid any actions or activities that could potentially cause a fire while visiting outdoor areas.

Anyone who notices smoke or a fire is urged to immediately call 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Service).
