A unique glimpse of Cyprus nature has been captured by a camera operated by the Game and Fauna Service, showing a group of seven Cyprus mouflon gathered at a location where water was available.
Particular attention is drawn to a female mouflon at the centre of the group, accompanied by two young, one male and one female.
Twin births are uncommon
The presence of the twins makes the sighting particularly notable, as twin births among Cyprus mouflon are not common.
The rate varies from year to year but is estimated to remain below 10%. The survival rate of twins during their first year of life is also relatively low.
The footage provides a rare glimpse into the daily life of the emblematic Cyprus mouflon, while also capturing two of the youngest members of the species’ population on the island.
