Mostly clear start before afternoon instability
Today’s weather in Cyprus will begin mostly clear, however cloud development is expected progressively through the day, bringing isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm after midday, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology.
The unsettled conditions are expected mainly over mountainous areas, inland regions, and southern and southwestern parts of the island. Hail may also fall in isolated thunderstorms.
Temperatures reach 29C inland
Weak low pressure and a relatively unstable air mass continue to affect the region.
Winds during the morning will initially be variable and weak at around 3 Beaufort. Later in the day, they will become mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.
Temperatures are expected to rise to around 29C inland, 26C along the southern and eastern coasts, 25C on the remaining coastal areas, and around 18C in the higher mountains.
Clear conditions return tonight
Tonight, conditions will become mostly clear, although increased low cloud may appear locally at intervals.
Winds will initially blow southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort before gradually weakening into light downslope winds at around 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.
Temperatures overnight will fall to around 16C inland, 17C along the coast, and 12C in the higher mountainous areas.
Rain chances continue through midweek
On Wednesday, increased cloud cover developing after midday is expected to bring isolated showers and a thunderstorm, mainly in mountainous areas.
On Thursday, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected from midday onwards, mainly affecting the mountains and inland regions.
Friday will be mostly clear, although locally increased afternoon cloud may bring isolated rain to southern and eastern areas.
Temperatures on Wednesday will rise slightly and remain at similar levels through Friday, staying close to or slightly below average climatic values for the season.
