Unstable conditions continue to affect the region under the influence of weak low pressure, shaping the latest Cyprus weather forecast through to Friday.
Rain, isolated thunderstorms and strengthening winds will dominate the coming days, while dust in the atmosphere is expected from Thursday.
Rain and storms spreading across island
Today begins partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, with a chance of isolated showers mainly in western areas. Conditions will gradually deteriorate, bringing localised rain and isolated thunderstorms, with a small risk of hail. Sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos.
South-westerly to westerly winds will blow at moderate to strong levels, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort, although they may remain lighter locally in the morning. During the afternoon, winds along windward coastal areas may briefly strengthen to 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to rough.
Temperatures will reach around 19°C inland and along the northern coast, about 20°C in the south-east and east, near 18°C on the remaining coasts, and close to 8°C in the highest mountains.
Cold night with frost risk in mountains
Tonight, the western half of the island will see periods of mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm, especially near the coast. Elsewhere, clearer intervals will develop. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest Troodos peaks.
Winds will shift mainly south-westerly to north-westerly at weak to moderate strength, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to 5 Beaufort in windward areas. The sea will remain slightly rough to rough, becoming rough in parts of the west and north.
Temperatures will drop to around 9°C inland, 13°C on the western coast, about 11°C on the remaining coasts, and near 2°C in the highest mountains, where frost may form locally.
Showers and dust through Friday
On Wednesday and Thursday, Cyprus weather forecast indicates periods of mostly cloudy skies with intermittent local rain and isolated thunderstorms.
By Friday, rain and storms will extend gradually across all areas. Snow or sleet may also affect the highest Troodos peaks during this period.
Temperatures will remain close to current levels, staying slightly above average climatic values.
