A forensic examination found no evidence indicating sexual abuse following an allegation made by a 21-year-old inmate at Cyprus’ Central Prisons, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order announced.
According to the Ministry, prison authorities immediately activated the relevant protocol after becoming aware of the allegation and launched all required procedures without delay.
A forensic pathologist was called to the prison to examine the inmate. The Ministry stated that the examination did not reveal any findings consistent with sexual abuse.
The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was also notified, and investigators met with the inmate to begin inquiries. However, the inmate said he wished to consult his lawyer before deciding whether to file an official complaint.
Authorities added that all necessary measures were taken from the outset to safeguard the inmate and manage the incident, treating him as a potential victim.
The Ministry stressed that there was no attempt to conceal or cover up the allegation, stating that prison authorities followed all established procedures, immediately informed the competent authorities and prioritised both the inmate’s protection and a full investigation.
