The Cyprus Consumers Association has identified increases in prices of widely used consumer products listed on the e-kalathi platform during the second half of July 2026.
According to an announcement, between 16 and 31 July, the rate of price increases for products included in the platform slowed, while the rate of price reductions increased.
During this period, e-kalathi prices increased for a total of 805 products, with an average rise of 10.6%. At the same time, price reductions were recorded for 908 products, with an average decrease of 11.9%.
Biggest increases in frozen foods and sweets
The largest price increases were recorded in the categories of frozen pasta and pizzas, which rose by 7.6%, fruit juices by 6.6%, and chocolates and pasta products by 6.3%.
The association also noted that in most supermarkets participating in e-kalathi, the differences between selling prices remain significant and do not appear to indicate strong competition.
Supermarket price differences remain wide
A survey conducted on 31 July involving 177 identical products across 12 supermarkets found a 15.8% difference in their average total cost.
However, among the five supermarkets offering the largest number of products, the difference in the total cost of 327 common products listed on e-kalathi was only 7.6%.
The Cyprus Consumers Association urged consumers, where possible, to avoid purchasing products that have recorded price increases, describing this as a way for consumers to help limit further price rises.
Data based on official platforms
The association stressed that its findings were based exclusively on prices recorded on the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry’s e-kalathi platform and the free private application smart kalathi.
It added that it will continue monitoring price developments in widely used consumer products and will publish its observations and conclusions with transparency.
