President hails landmark healthcare reform
President Nikos Christodoulides welcomed the approval of the bill establishing the National Centre for Clinical Documentation, calling it a “significant reform” marking a key step towards modernising Cyprus’ healthcare system.
Focus on patient-centred care
The President highlighted that the government is committed to implementing a patient-focused healthcare model, prioritising quality, reliability, and safety in medical services. He noted that the creation of the Centre was part of his pre-election pledges and a flagship initiative in the 2025 government agenda.
Independent standards and oversight
For the first time, Cyprus will have an independent mechanism to ensure healthcare is delivered according to unified, scientifically-backed standards. The Centre will define best medical practice guidelines, monitor their implementation, and evaluate services to guarantee all citizens receive consistent, high-quality, and safe care, regardless of provider or region.
Supporting professionals and transparency
The Centre will also set quality criteria, provide training and support to healthcare professionals, and strengthen transparency and continuous improvement across the system. President Christodoulides described the reform as strategically significant, reinforcing public trust and elevating the national healthcare system, with patient safety remaining a top government priority.
