President asked for no price increases on electricity bills

Date:

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said he requested that no price increases are imposed in relation to electricity bills, expressing hope that the electricity authority would respond.

Asked by a journalist, arriving at an event in Nicosia on Sunday, about media reports that he sent a “strict message” to the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) and Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) not to proceed with price increases on electricity bills, the President said that he had a meeting on this specific issue “away from the spotlight, and I requested that no increases are added, especially at this stage”.

“These are actions that we often take away from the spotlight”, he said, expressing the conviction that “at this juncture the EAC should not proceed with such an increase”.

He expressed hope that the electricity authority would respond to this request.
