Preparations ongoing for informal UN meeting on Cyprus in March

Date:

“We can confirm that preparations are ongoing for an informal meeting on the Cyprus issue on March 17-18 in Geneva,” said the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, speaking to CNA.

“The UN Under Secretary-General, Rosemary DiCarlo, announced during her recent visit to Cyprus that the meeting would take place in March. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a meaningful discussion on the way forward on the Cyprus Issue,” he added.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
