A sudden power outage occurred on the evening of Thursday, 3 April 2025, affecting several central areas of Nicosia. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has confirmed that the interruption began at approximately 8:35 p.m. and is expected to last until midnight.
The affected areas include:
- Agioi Omologites
- Agios Antonios
- Trypiotis
Power supply was disrupted in all three neighbourhoods just minutes apart, starting from 8:35 p.m. in Agioi Omologites and shortly after in Agios Antonios and Trypiotis at 8:36 p.m. Restoration is estimated to be completed by 12:00 a.m. on 4 April.
According to the EAC, the outage is due to a technical fault in the distribution network, which required immediate isolation of the affected grid sections for safety and repair purposes. Technicians are currently working on-site to resolve the issue and restore electricity as soon as possible.
Residents and businesses in the area are advised to take necessary precautions, especially those reliant on electronic equipment or medical devices, and to stay informed through official EAC updates.
No injuries or emergencies have been reported in relation to the outage so far.
