Power outage hits multiple areas across Cyprus

Fault at Vasiliko unit

A power outage affected several areas across Cyprus on Thursday morning, causing temporary electricity disruptions in multiple districts.

According to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), the issue was caused by a fault in the production system, specifically at Unit 1 of the Vasiliko power station.

Power restored within minutes

The EAC said the planned protection systems were automatically activated following the fault.

Electricity supply was restored a few minutes later, with authorities confirming the power outage was brought under control shortly after the disruption.

No further details were immediately provided regarding the cause of the fault at the Vasiliko facility.
