A post-mortem examination in the Larnaca murder case has revealed that the victim died from five stab wounds and strangulation, according to forensic pathologist Dr Nikolaos Charalambous.
The examination was carried out on Monday as investigations continue into the killing, which is linked to an abduction case involving a 22-year-old man.
Abduction investigation leads to discovery
Police said the body was discovered in an open area in the Larnaca district during the investigation of the alleged abduction of a 22-year-old Bangladeshi national, identified as SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON.
Following information gathered during the probe, officers arrested a 22-year-old suspect on Sunday under a court warrant.
Suspect confession and evidence
During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in both the abduction and the murder, and led investigators to the location where the body was found in a state of decomposition.
A knife was also recovered at the scene, which the suspect allegedly identified as the murder weapon.
Police also found personal belongings of the victim, while forensic indications confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Investigation ongoing
The scene was cordoned off for forensic examination, with investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department and forensic services attending.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for a detention order.
The abduction was initially reported on 12 June 2026 by a roommate of the victim. The victim had reportedly left home the previous day to begin work at a factory when he went missing.
Later that evening, the victim’s father, who lives abroad, received messages demanding money for his release.
The Larnaca CID continues its investigation.
