The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, in cooperation with the Reptile and Amphibian Park in Neo Chorio, is calling on residents to help with the safe management and protection of reptiles in the area.
Residents are urged not to handle, remove or kill snakes or other reptiles if they are found in residential areas, on roads, in yards or in other locations where they may be at risk or cause concern.
Safe handling of reptiles
The municipality said reptile protection is a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to contact the appropriate authorities rather than attempting to intervene themselves.
The Reptile and Amphibian Park in Neo Chorio operates within the municipality and focuses on the protection, promotion and safe management of reptiles.
Anyone who encounters a snake or another reptile in an inhabited area or another potentially dangerous location is asked not to touch, move or kill the animal.
Residents can contact the park’s manager, Tasos Tsappis, on 26-323557, and/or Vicky Theodorou on 26-322520, so that the animal can be safely managed, collected and relocated where necessary.
Protecting local biodiversity
The municipality said the protection of reptiles forms an important part of preserving biodiversity and the natural balance of the area.
It added that cooperation between residents and those responsible for wildlife management can help ensure that reptiles are treated safely and with respect.
