Police warn of fake supermarket reward SMS scam

Date:

The Cybercrime Subdivision of the Cyprus Police has received several complaints regarding misleading SMS messages falsely appearing to be from a supermarket.

According to an official police statement, the messages claim that the recipient has reward points that are about to expire, encouraging them to click on a specific link to redeem them. However, this is a scam attempt designed to deceive the public.

“The goal of the fraudsters is to trick individuals and obtain their banking information or money,” the police said, urging the public to exercise caution.

Authorities are advising recipients of such messages not to respond or click on any links, and to delete the message immediately.

This scam is part of a wider trend of phishing attempts that use familiar brand names to lure victims into providing sensitive data.
