Police step up road safety measures ahead of Kataklysmos

Date:

Traffic measures will be increased across Cyprus over the three-day holiday period from Saturday, 30 May to Monday, 1 June, as police aim to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.

According to an announcement by the Police, enhanced patrols and enforcement will focus on preventing road collisions and assisting drivers across the island.

Increased police presence on key roads

As part of the traffic measures, officers from the Traffic Department will be deployed in greater numbers on motorways, intercity roads and major road arteries.

The aim is to manage increased traffic volumes expected during the holiday period and to reduce congestion on the road network.

Police will also carry out intensified roadside checks targeting serious traffic violations. These include speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which authorities say remain key factors in fatal and serious road collisions.

The traffic measures will prioritise enforcement against behaviours that pose the greatest risk to road safety.

Public urged to drive responsibly

The Police have called on drivers to exercise extra caution during the holiday period, as increased traffic is expected nationwide.

Motorists are urged to comply with traffic laws, road signs and instructions from on-duty officers.

Authorities stressed that cooperation from the public is essential for the success of the traffic measures and the prevention of accidents during the festive period.
