As the Green Monday holiday approaches, the Cyprus Police are urging all road users to exercise extra caution, strictly follow the Road Traffic Code, and show respect to fellow drivers.
Increased traffic expected during the holiday
Authorities anticipate higher traffic volumes across the island’s road network over the long weekend. To manage the increased flow, both the Traffic Department at Police Headquarters and the district Traffic Departments are stepping up patrols on highways, intercity roads, and other streets.
Enhanced police presence ensures safety
Police patrols aim to maintain smooth traffic flow, provide assistance when needed, and detect violations that could endanger road users. According to the announcement, officers will monitor compliance with traffic laws to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
Alcohol and traffic offence checks
During the holiday, police will conduct intensive alcohol checks to remove drivers posing a risk due to intoxication. Officers will also enforce other traffic regulations, including speed limits, seatbelt use, helmet compliance, and mobile phone restrictions, which remain leading causes of fatal and serious road accidents.
